Stroke symptoms can be confusing. However, when you look at the facts they actually make a lot of sense. A stroke is a type of injury to the brain that causes permanent damage. Stroke symptoms can vary depending on the severity of the stroke. Stroke symptoms usually include weakness or paralysis of the muscles of the affected area and dizziness.
Stroke symptoms can also include headaches, dizziness, a feeling of incomplete emptying, memory loss, sudden numbness in the arms or legs, and nausea. Another sign that you may have a stroke is if you experience a change in personality, drooping of eyelids, trouble with language or swallowing, or if you have trouble moving or speaking. Stroke symptoms can also cause unconsciousness. The biggest warning sign of a stroke is if you lose consciousness for longer than eight seconds.
Stroke symptoms that come in sets: if you’re experiencing more than four of these symptoms, you need to get to the hospital right away because you’re more than likely suffering from a stroke. The reason why you feel like you’ve lost your senses is because your brain isn’t communicating with your body. It’s trying to tell your body that you need help, but you can’t understand speech or you can’t seem to move your body right away.
Another sign that you need to pay attention to is weakness on one side of the body. When this happens you may think it’s just a muscle spasm or a minor ache. But soon as you feel the pain, you can’t move your arm so you try to rub it or do anything to relieve it. Unfortunately, this type of symptom also means that there is a decreased blood flow in that area. This is a huge problem, and you definitely want to get to the hospital right away.
The third main symptom is ischemic stroke. A stroke of this type occurs when there is a lack of blood flowing to the area. The brain has the information that the blood is flowing properly and then the part of the brain which controls movement begins to malfunction. This is the most common type of stroke.
One of the other main reasons why people get strokes is because they have diabetes. Stroke symptoms caused by diabetes usually include loss of consciousness, slurred speech, loss of balance and dizziness. Stroke occurs due to a blockage in the blood supply to the part of the brain that controls movement. Diabetes is the number one leading cause of blindness in the United States. Stroke occurs when the blood supply to the affected area is blocked.
Blood clots can also be caused from several different things. Heart disease, infection, high cholesterol levels and smoking are all known causes of large amounts of cholesterol building up in the arteries. When the body’s arteries are narrowed by too much plaque it weakens them and blood clots can form. They are very dangerous and they can even block an artery or two, enough to prevent oxygen from reaching the brain.
If you have been diagnosed with a carotid artery problem, it is important to talk with your doctor about a treatment plan. There are many different treatments available for narrowing down or removing plaque from carotid arteries. Doctors use an endovascular procedure that includes injecting a narrow stream of blood into the affected carotid arteries with a catheter, or a procedure that involves making a small cut in the neck so the dentist can make a surgical incision and remove the clotted blood with a laser-a type of surgery that is often referred to as “carotid artery laser surgery”.
