Cancer is a disease where cells begin to grow abnormally. Normally, cancer is not common in younger people, but a number of different cancer types may occur at this age group, particularly those that affect the breast or prostate. Most cancer occurs in elderly adults. The risk for cancer increases with age and all types of cancers are more likely in women than men. Men are more likely to die from cancer than women.
Types of cancers include lung cancer, kidney cancer, cervical cancer, liver cancer, leukemia (cancer of the blood), ovarian cancer, rectal cancer, breast cancer, prostrate cancer, bladder cancer, colon cancer, patellar cancer, leukemia (and type II), Hodgkin’s disease, skin cancer, pancreatic cancer, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease (or disease), bone cancer, head and neck cancer, nasal sinus cancer, throat cancer and liver cancer. These are just some examples. Environmental exposures to different types of chemicals may increase the risk of developing one of these cancers. Some cancers are also more likely to occur in people who smoke.
Leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells. When these cells become abnormal, they travel through the bloodstream to other parts of the body and start to multiply. There are two types of leukemic disorders, acute and chronic. Children and young adults have a much higher chance of getting chronic or systemic leukemic diseases than do those who are older.
Some of the most common cancers in adults are leukemia and lymphoma. Other leukemic disorders are bone cancer, gallbladder cancer, prostate cancer and squamous cell carcinoma. Many of these types of cancers occur in children and young adults. Leukemia occurs more commonly in blacks, Hispanics and Asian Americans, especially in those of East Indian and Filipino descent.
Another set of common cancers in adults occur mostly in those who are older. These cancers are kidney cancers, lung cancers and cervical cancers. The most deadly type of cancer occurs in smokers. Quitting smoking can drastically reduce the risk of some types of cancers.
Childhood cancers are some of the least common cancers among adults. These include leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. Leukemia generally occurs in children between the ages of two and fourteen, while Hodgkin’s Disease and myeloma generally occur later in life. Cervical cancer usually occurs in women between the ages of twenty-five and forty-four.
Some of the rarest forms of cancer are the soft tissue sarcomas and mesotheliomas. Soft tissue sarcomas are generally seen in elderly people. These cancers tend to cause painful swelling in the abdominal area or sometimes the entire body. Mesothelioma, on the other hand, is a cancer that usually develops in those who are older, and it usually attacks the lining of the organs such as the heart or the lungs. There are many different types of mesothelioma, which can be difficult for doctors to diagnose.
All of these types of cancers can have very aggressive cancerous cells. They can also have a high fatality rate if they are left untreated. The best way to avoid all of these types of cancers is to keep your body as healthy as possible. You can do this by quitting smoking, avoiding eating foods that are high in cholesterol and saturated fats, and making sure that you get plenty of exercise on a daily basis. You should also be aware that when you experience a lump in one of your lymph nodes, seek medical attention immediately for your health and safety.
One of the more common types of cancers for women is breast cancer. This is particularly common in younger women, and tends to affect women who are middle aged and younger. Breast cancer tends to be found in women who have reached menopause. In addition, there are several forms of breast cancer, and different stages of it. Some of the more common types include ductal cancer, lobular carcinoma, breast cancer that have spread to the lymph nodes, and leukemia.
The most common cancers that men face are lung cancer and prostate cancer. Both of these, however, tend to affect men at a younger age. As with breast cancer, men can contract adenocarcinoma, the most common form of lung cancer among men. If a man has prostate cancer, he will also have prostate gland cancer. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer found in men.
One of the more surprising cancers for women is the ovarian cancer. Although this does tend to occur more frequently in younger women, it does not tend to occur until a woman’s late 40s. There are a number of different forms of ovarian cancer, and different stages of it. Regardless, of whether a woman contracts ovarian cancer, or another type, she should be aware of the symptoms so that she can seek medical attention as soon as possible.
