The most common Stroke symptom is called “Myocardial Obstruction.” This is when the flow of blood to the brain is stopped. This can happen for many reasons, usually due to high blood pressure, heart disease, or even a stroke. When this happens, the brain has no way to get the nutrients and oxygen that it needs to work properly. This can cause swelling of the arteries, which then results in a stroke.
Another Stroke symptom that you should be aware of is called “Sudden numbness/tingling in the leg.” Sudden numbness in the leg is the result of a lack of blood flow to the area. This can lead to weakness or even paralysis. If you experience this symptom, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
Another very important Stroke symptom is called “drooping eyelids.” This is also known as “tummy tic.” A person who has suffered a stroke may droop their eyelids as a result of the loss of muscles that cover the eyes. This is a very serious condition and should never be ignored. If you are drooping eyelids, it is important to call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately. Remember, drooping eyelids can be a sign of a number of different diseases including meningitis, brain cancer, and diabetes.
Another very serious Stroke symptom is called “shaking or trembling.” Again, this is a sign of a number of different conditions, including heart attacks, stroke, and diabetes. It can also be a sign of a serious disease like heart disease, congestive heart failure, or sudden vision loss. It is important to note that shaking or trembling in the upper body can be a symptom of another condition as well. If you experience uncontrollable shaking in the upper body, it is important to contact 911 immediately.
The last Stroke symptom we will discuss is called “confusion.” Confusion can be confused with drowsiness, but confusion is usually a sign that the patient is experiencing some type of problem related to the brain or nervous system. Two very good acronyms for describing confusion are “foggy blind” and “migraines.” Foggy blind is a more common Stroke symptom that is mistaken for a disease. Migraines affects the same area of the brain as foggy blind. If you experience constant migraines you should contact your doctor and seek immediate treatment.
These four signs are the most common of all Stroke Symptoms. However, there are many other less common signs that may occur during or after a Stroke. The more signs of a brain injury or complication there are the greater the risk of death or permanent brain damage. These types of complications are not to scare you, but instead to inform you that you need to seek immediate medical attention. Strokes happen every minute in the United States.
If you have any of these symptoms you should call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. These symptoms can be attributed to a few different issues. Some of these issues can be related to a bleed in the brain (ischemia), blockage in a blood vessel (angioedema), a lack of oxygen (hypoxia) or structural damage of the brain (stroke association).
It is also very important that stroke patients know and understand how to protect themselves and their surroundings. Stroke patients should never drive vehicles or operate machinery unless they have been trained and certified to do so. Stroke patients should also keep their heads elevated while sitting, instead of lying down. Stroke patients should always lift from the floor with one hand and lay on their back with their shoulders lifted. Lastly, stroke patients should have someone available at all times to help them if they are having a seizure.
