MS Symptoms differ from individual to individual. One person may experience just one or few of the possible discomforts, while another person encounters many more. Occurs in approximately 80% of those who are afflicted with MS, and can significantly hinder a person’s ability to function normally at work and home, as well as the severity of a person’s impairment that affects daily life. MS symptoms impact the central nervous system and other organs.
A large portion of MS sufferers experience numbness, tingling or weakness in one or more limbs due to decreased levels of myelin. The most common is loss of sensory reception of light, or phototaxis, which affects the ability of a person to perceive or see things outside of the light spectrum. Other symptoms include severe anemia, bladder and bowel incontinence, loss of balance, uncontrollable muscle twitching, increased sensitivity to temperature, decreased fine motor coordination, decreased sense of smell, and difficulty learning and speaking. In addition, people with MS may also experience decreased libido, insomnia, depression, anxiety, irritability, speech problems, neck stiffness, fatigue, decreased muscle and joint flexibility, and a shorter attention span.
The exact causes of MS have not been identified, but several factors have been postulated. Researchers believe that these factors are genetic and that they were put into place by the body’s natural defenses. A large factor that has been associated with MS symptoms is the increased use and dependence on computers, televisions, and wireless phones, all of which are technologically advanced and now present a double threat to a person’s health. However, studies have shown that there is no definite relationship between MS symptoms and exposure to these electronic sources.
Another possible factor in MS is exposure to an asbestos containing product. There are many years where asbestos was used in construction, medicine, and other industries. Though this deadly substance has been banned since 1960, there are still many doctors who believe that it could be responsible for causing MS. Because MS is such a long-lasting disease, many researchers believe that there are links between the disease and the amount of asbestos in the individual’s underarm area. If you have been exposed to asbestos and developed MS, you need to talk to your doctor about a possible link between your cases of Multiple Sclerosis and the disease that you suffer from.
Muscle weakness, fatigue, depression, anxiety, short temper, and difficulty concentrating, are also commonalities among those who have MS. Because of these symptoms, those who have MS may get back up easily, but there is no way to get around it. This muscle weakness, fatigue, and depression can make it hard for the person to get out of bed in the morning. If you find that you constantly feel fatigued and weak, talk to your doctor about ways to treat your condition.
A few other common symptoms of MS are speech problems, a tremor that occurs in various parts of the body, uncontrollable shaking, muscle spasms, frequent urination, depression, blurry vision, memory loss, nausea, dizziness, bowel changes, and low blood pressure. These are all also fairly common symptoms of multiple sclerosis. The reason that MS can affect so many different parts of the body is that it affects the nervous system. Once the nervous system is affected, multiple sclerosis can cause serious problems to the person’s health. The first symptoms of MS can be very similar to those that are associated with other medical conditions, so don’t hesitate to visit your doctor and get a complete checkup.
Other common symptoms of MS include having a pounding heart, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, tremors, and depression. When looking for a treatment option, you may start to feel that there is no cure for MS, but that is not true. With proper treatment, you will eventually find that your symptoms can be controlled. MS is a very slow-growing disease, so you may never experience the symptoms to the same degree that others may. However, with the right medication and treatment, you can begin to experience some improvements in your condition.
MS symptoms can be very frustrating to deal with, but with early detection, you can get the necessary medications and treatment much sooner than expected. The most important thing to remember is to look for the signs of multiple sclerosis. If you have any of these symptoms, go to an MS clinic for a thorough exam and a complete checkup.
