Types of cancers are not the same as types of diseases. There is a general difference between the two. In general, all cancers affect the tissues that spread to other organs and structures and cause death. A tumor is not part of a body’s normal growth process. Cancer cells can become malignant over the course of time, although most cancers remain undiagnosed until they have progressed to more serious stages.
The risk factors for developing cancer are hereditary, gender, age, weight, and height. Risk factors are inherited from parents or family members and cannot be changed. In cancer, the risk factors include a family history of cancer, a history of benign tumors in the lung or colon (benign non-malignant tumors), a history of skin cancer, and living with someone who had cancer. Men are more likely to develop prostate cancer than women. Men have an increased risk of getting colon and lung cancer, while women have an increased risk of having skin cancer.
Types of cancers that occur mostly in children and teenagers are: childhood cancers – most common among boys and girls; ovarian and breast cancer – most common among girls; leukemia and lymphoma – occurs mostly in adults; pancreatic cancer – occurs mostly in adults; mouth, throat, and mouth cancer – occurs mostly in children and teenagers; leukemia and lymphoma – occurs mostly in adults. Malignant tumors are not common in children and are usually diagnosed after the patient’s death. Most people with malignant tumors live for only a few years. Malignant tumors do not spread to other parts of the body and usually will not spread to other sites inside the body, although they may start to spread elsewhere. Some cancers are very dangerous, and if caught early enough, can be treated successfully.
The most common type of cancer in adults is testicular cancer. Approximately one million men in the United States alone suffer from testicular cancer annually. The most usual symptom of testicular cancer is a lump that grows on the testicles. Other symptoms include pain in the testicles, abnormal bleeding, and bleeding during sexual intercourse. The cancer of the scrotum, prostate, lungs, and chest can also produce lumps that look like those of testicular cancer. Since these types of lumps are so similar to those of testicular cancer, most men with these problems are diagnosed as being just with testicular cancer and get treatment accordingly.
Types of cancers that occur commonly in adults include colon, lung, and breast cancers. One third of the people diagnosed with lung cancer each year die within five years. Prostate cancer is the second-most common type of cancer in adults, and accounts for nearly one million deaths each year. Leukemia, lymphoma, and Hodgkin’s disease are also common cancers that occur in adults and are usually diagnosed when they’re very early on.
All three of the main types of cancer that occur in adults can be caused by environmental exposures. There are a number of different types of cancer that can result from these exposures, however. Some of the more common are lung, colorectal, and cervical cancer. It should be noted that the two main types of cancer that occur in adults can also occur in children, though they are less common.
The most common cancers that occur in older adults are lung and colorectal cancer. They account for nearly one in five cancer deaths in this age group, and account for nearly three quarters of all lung cancer deaths. Mesothelioma, which is a rare type of cancer, accounts for about one percent of all lung cancers that occur in older adults. Hodgkin’s disease and breast cancer are also common cancers that occur in older adults.
These are the most common types of cancer that occur in adults. But there are several other types of cancer that can occur at any age. A brief list of some of the more common types of cancers that affect the older population include kidney, ovarian, bladder, pancreatic, skin, cervical, ovarian, liver, leukemia, and many more. It should be noted that the majority of people who develop cancer are male, and the majority of cancer deaths occur among men in their forties and fifties. Overall, the most common types of cancer that affect younger people are breast cancer and colon cancer.
