Cancer is not very common in younger adults, but a number of different cancer types may occur at this age group and curing these cancers can sometimes be difficult. Most common cancers occur in middle-aged adults. The most common cancer in middle-aged adults are skin cancer, lung, bladder and colon cancer, breast (in females), and rectum cancer. Skin cancer is the most widespread cancer type, with over half of all cancer cases in the United States. Breast and rectal cancer are also very common.
Spinal tumors, also called spinal tumors or meningitis, are one of the many types of brain cancers. These often appear in the lower part of the spine, or on the neck. There are many different kinds of spinal tumors. The three most common are glomus tumors, inguinal hernia, and peritoneum profusion.
Many types of childhood cancers also occur later in life. Brain cancer, for example, occurs in approximately one in fifty children. Leukemia is a common childhood cancer, occurring in nearly one in seventy children. Most of leukemia is due to white blood cells that attack healthy cells. Other types of childhood cancers include congenital heart disease, lymphomas, and other immune-compromised diseases.
Lung cancers continue to increase among young adults as they age. This is because as people get older, their susceptibility to certain types of cancers increases. These include squamous cell carcinoma, mesothelioma, and lung adenocarcinoma. These types of cancers account for the vast majority of lung malignancies that occur.
As people get older, it becomes more difficult for them to detect most types of non-melanoma skin cancer. For example, skin cancer is more easily detected among middle-aged and older adults than in younger people. Lymphoma continues to be the most common type of non-melanoma skin cancer found among younger people. It is most commonly found among younger men and women.
Some types of common cancers also occur later in life than others. One such example of a disease that occurs later in life is breast cancer. While it can occur at any age, the majority of breast cancers reported to occur among women between the ages of forty and sixty-five. Another common cancer that occurs later in life is esophageal cancer. It is most commonly found among men between the ages of thirty and fifty-four.
Overall survival rates for most types of cancers have improved over the past few years. Survival from cancers of all types has increased over the last ten years, and the cancer mortality rate has declined. Most types of skin cancer, with the exception of melanoma, are relatively rare in the United States. Even so, skin cancer continues to be the second-leading cause of death from cancer in America. Due to the high rate of death from this disease, the cost of treating malignant skin cancer is high, particularly for small-scale operators.
Lymphomas, non-melanoma skin cancer, and esophageal cancer are the most common types of common cancers found in adults. Leukemia is the most common of all childhood cancers. Leukemia is more commonly known as a disease of children, since its occurrence mostly in children younger than five years old. Most childhood cancers, however, are the result of heredity and other factors. Some of the more common types of childhood cancer are lymphocytic leukemia, bone marrow, myeloid leukemia, and cervical cancer.
Since the early 1980s, several studies have been conducted to determine the survival rates for different types of adolescent cancers. These studies have shown that children who receive treatment for their cancer early have a greater chance of surviving than children who receive treatment later in life. Children who receive treatment for their cancer early in life have a much lower risk of suffering from a secondary malignancy or becoming permanently infected with HPV, the virus that causes cervical cancer. Studies have shown that the survival rates for adolescent leukemia are similar to that of adults with leukemia.
There are several common cancers that affect the younger population. One of the most common types of cancer that affects younger adults is nasal polyps. This disease occurs when fluid forms in the tonsils, the roof of the mouth, or the nose. A polyp can be either solid or filled with a liquid. Common symptoms include a sore throat, postnasal drip, difficulty breathing, and coughing.
Brain cancer and colon cancer are two other types of common cancers that affect young adults. The symptoms of brain cancer typically include seizures, headaches, an altered mental status, lack of concentration, or memory loss. A colon cancer symptom may include weight loss, constipation, or diarrhea. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately. The earlier these symptoms are detected, the better your chances of successfully treating your cancer and of preventing it from spreading to other parts of your body.
